As we head towards another bank holiday we wanted to tell you that Drain Doctor Guildford & Basingstoke will be open for business as per normal for all your plumbing and drainage emergencies.

In the meantime we thought it would be interesting to research a bit of the history.

The bank holiday on Monday 27th , also known as the Summer Bank Holiday, dates back to the Bank Holidays Act of 1871.  It was originally on the first Monday in August, but following a five-year trial period, it was permanently moved to the final Monday of August in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland 100 years later, in 1971.  However, the holiday remained the same in Scotland.

The August Bank Holiday was instituted to give bank clerks and shop workers a day of relaxation not connected to holy days such as Christmas and Good Friday which were considered days of rest . However, today the holiday gives many people a three-day weekend before the summer holidays end.

It will be a very busy period as far as traffic is concerned as we head off to local parks, beaches, nature reserves, other attractions and specially arranged events such The Nottingham Carnival.

However if you decide to stay at home, or are running a business and encounter a plumbing problem remember:

WE WILL NOT CHARGE YOU ANY MORE FOR ATTENDENCE AT THE WEEKEND - EVEN ON A BANK HOLIDAY
